High Voltage Awareness - Level 2 - ZEB Edition

Building on the foundation established in Level 1, this course is designed for mechanics seeking high-voltage qualification to work on Zero-Emission Bus (ZEB) systems and Electric Vehicle Support Equipment (EVSE). This advanced course uses detailed lessons and practical exercises to enhance your ability to work safely around ZEBs. You will learn to identify critical high-voltage components, understand safety systems, and create an electrically safe work condition that complies with industry standards.

Number of Hours/Days:

• 2 hours online over a 3-week period

In this course, participants will:

• Identify and describe the operations and functions of critical high-voltage components within a ZEB
• Explain how electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy for vehicle propulsion
• Differentiate between vehicle safety systems used in ZEBs
• Evaluate the purpose, capabilities, and ratings of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used for high-voltage tasks
• Recall how Restricted, Limited, and Arc Flash boundaries protect personnel from electrical hazards
• Describe how Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and testing for the absence of voltage create an electrically safe work condition

Compliance:

• HV Qualified Mechanics are required to take and pass this course every 3 years. The course may be required sooner than the 3-year mark depending on significant changes, including:
  • Introduction of new vehicle model(s)
  • New technology or types of equipment
  • Technical Service Bulletins or engineering changes
  • Updates or changes to Electrical Safety Program, Emergency Response Plan, or Standard Operating Procedures
